Color Inspirations from Nature
One of my favorite places in the world is Block Island, and one of my favorite things to do is to walk, hike and bike every inch of it – in every season, and at every time of day. I study how the landscape changes with the seasons – the white shad blooming, the spring yellow daffodils, the fuschia beach roses, the ever-changing teal to blue ocean, the fields of goldenrod, the miles of rock walls, and the many colors and tones of the beach, sand, and cliffs.
Every time I see one of these beautiful sites I think about how much the colors I see in nature have inspired my passion for, and use of color. Nature creates the most beautiful palettes and I am constantly trying to capture its beauty and bring it into our interior spaces.
There is extensive research on the power of nature in the design of healing environments, and we bring these concepts into our design of our healthcare spaces. But why not take the inspiration of nature and bring it into all of our interior environments? Studies show that people spend 90% of their lives indoors – wouldn’t it be wonderful to be in an office, education, home, or any type of space that brings the calm, passion, energy and beauty of nature inside? Let’s look beyond trends and expectations, and look to nature as our inspiration.
In the attached images, I’ve attempted to analyze and translate the colors in some of my favorite photos of Block Island. The palettes are built from Benjamin Moore colors. Contact us if you want to know the specifications of any of these palettes!
