Our design for the 2012 Ceramics of Italy pavilion at the Coverings Trade Show is called Baldacchino, which is canopy in Italian. The design blends the classical elegance of mosaic tile and Vitruvian geometries with the modern creativity of parametric modeling and fabrication.

Outdoor Italian cafes inspired the design of the pavilion. Above the pavilion is a “tree canopy” made of Italian mosaic tiles created with innovative design software and fabrication technology. The method of construction will be a first in the history of mosaic tile.
